Commissioners & Chairs

Commissioners and Chairs are appointed officers within Joint Session. Commissioners serve niche interests, groups, and constituencies amongst the student population. Chairs serve in roles that are key to the operation and maintenance of SGA as an organization.

Commissioners and Chairs meet with the Executive President monthly on Thursdays from 2:00-3:45 PM to discuss issues affecting the Emerson community, brainstorm, and update the Executive President on their particular constituencies and projects. 

Commissioners

  • On-Campus Commissioner: serves as the liaison between on-campus students, OHRL, other pertinent offices, and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of all on-campus students.

  • POWER Commissioner: serves as the liaison between SGA and Protesting Oppression with Educational Reform (POWER). Advises SGA on on any matters sensitive to POWER.

  • Service Learning Commissioner: serves as the liaison between organizations, offices, or committees dedicated to Service Learning and/or Community Service and the SGA.

  • Spiritual Life Commissioner: serves as the liaison between the spiritual community and the SGA. Advises on any matters sensitive to Spiritual Life.

  • Student Accessibility Commissioner: serves as the liaison between students with learning, physical, psychological, medical disabilities, Student Accessibility Services (SAS), the Student Health Advisor Board (SHAB), and the SGA. Advocates for policies that provide qualified students with disabilities equal access to the College’s programs, classes, activities and services.

  • Student Health and Wellness Commissioner: serves as the liaison between SGA and health related departments at Emerson College, including ECAPS, the Center for Health and Wellness, and SHAB.

  • Sustainability Commissioner: serves as the liaison between organizations, offices, or committees dedicated to sustainability at Emerson College and the SGA. Seeks to promote sustainability measures and awareness on campus.

  • Transfer Student Commissioner: serves as the liaison between transfer students and the SGA. Advises SGA on any matters sensitive to Transfer Students

  • Athletics Commissioner: serves as the liaison between the Athletics department and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of student athletes and those involved in programs sponsored by the Athletics Department.

  • Education Abroad and Domestic Programs Commissioner: serves as the liaison between students at an education abroad or domestic program and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of students that are or will be participating in these programs. This is the only commissioner position that can be held by a student not currently at the Boston campus.

  • Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) Commissioner: serves as the liaison between FSL Council and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of students that participate in FSL Life.

  • Honors Program Commissioner: serves as the liaison between the Honors students and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of all students participating in the honors program.

  • Intercultural Commissioner: serves as the liaison between the culturally based student groups (EBONI, ASIA, Amigos, etc.), the Social Justice Center, and other pertinent offices on campus. Advises SGA on any culturally sensitive matters.

  • International Student Commissioner: serves as the liaison between international students, the Office of International Student Affairs, and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of all international students

  • LGBTQIA+ Commissioner: serves as the liaison between Emerson's LGBTQIA+ student groups (EAGLE) and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of those students that identify as LGBTQIA+.

  • Off-Campus Commissioner: serves as the liaison between off-campus students, Off-Campus Student Services, and the SGA. Looks out for the interests of off-campus students.

Chairs

  • Public Relations Chair: works in the SGA to maintain a public face for the organization. They maintain the SGA's social media, update and edit the website as needed, and generally work to promote the SGA, its purpose, and its events, to all students.

  • Elections Chair: works in the SGA to facilitate all Elections procedures. They draft each Elections Timeline per constitutional requirements, host Elections Press Night each elections cycle, communicate with all candidates, and work with the Chief Justice to maintain all SGA By-Laws and constitutionality throughout any Elections Cycle.
